GenCon 2004: Wednesday Night Awards
The Indie RPG Awards and the Diana Jones Award were presented in what may have been a very nice ceremony last night. Much to my annoyance, however, too much of the assembled crowd of pros didn't really get the basic concept of listening while Andy Kitkowski was presenting the Indie RPG Awards; he could barely be heard over the dull roar of conversation despite the aid of a sound system.
So I figure anyone who was talking during Andy's big ceremony doesn't get to bitch about how rude fans are for the next year, and they have to send a review copy of everything they publish to whichever RPGnet review has given the lowest average rating over their review career. Because when you get right down to it? Ignoring Andy while nattering away at the bar is just plain rude.
Ahem. Pardon the rant. Long story short, I wound up leaving early in the ceremony because I was too frustrated and pissed off to hang around. However, the 2004 Indie RPG Award winners did get announced and here they are -- although you should go to the actual site, because there's a lot of good commentary on the nominees and the process.
- Indie Game of the Year
- My Life With Master
- Indie RPG Supplement of the Year
- JAGS Have-Not
- Free Game of the Year
- FATE
- Best Production
- My Life With Master
- Best Support
- FATE
- Best Synergy
- My Life With Master
- Most Innovative Game
- My Life With Master
- Andy's Choice Award
- Barbarians of Lemuria and Wushu
- Humans of the Year
- Luke Crane
Pretty clearly the year of FATE and My Life With Master, both of which are highly deserving.
Just to cap it all off, My Life With Master won the Diana Jones Award as well. Kudos to Paul Czege!

Whenever I hear about something like this, I think of the movie "Falling Down". How much rude can you take before your rude-o-meter gets full and you snap?
Ugh.
Reminds me of the recent article on the off-duty police officer who maced a rude couple who wouldn't stop talking on their cell phones during a movie. He will probably lose his badge ... but should get a medal IMHO.
Anyway, thanks for the list!
