Lumpley's Principles

Posted by Rob MacD on March 1, 2005 at 04:03 PM

Primeval Games Press has posted a short interview with our man Vincent Baker on their website. As is very often the case with Vincent's blog (still no RSS feed, boo hiss now with an RSS feed, applause applause!), Vincent says so many things in this interview that make me go, "Yes! That is so right!" that if I quoted them all, I'd have reposted the whole damn interview. So just go read it.

I don't know anything about Primeval Games, but I see they have a few more articles and interviews on their site, along with a handful of original games, some free for the taking, some not. You could check them out too if so inclined.

Edit: I just read through the two other interviews up at the Primeval site, with Keith Senkowski and Clinton Nixon. All three guys get asked to list their favorite games, and I couldn't help noticing that all three included on their list The Mountain Witch. That's a game to watch, people. It frustrates me a little that the people I tried it with didn't warm to it more, but there is definitely something there.

Sweet! And by sweet, I mean totally awesome.

The Mountain Witch really is a game to check out. I can't recommend it highly enough. I mean I was enjoying it from the get go, but when we got to the duel I was just amazed at how exciting and intense the whole experience was.

I agree, Vincent had some good stuff to say, and not necessarily stuff I'd heard before. Which is the whole point of the series, really. (And if there's something I *should* be asking people, I'm open to suggestions.) Especially connecting with people on an emotional level. That's what I always found lacknig in so many games, especially that I'd watch or hear about. And yet it's also what some of my high-school RPGing friends seem to be afraid of. They actually *want* a superficial experience. Maybe like the MTV of gaming or something. But they don't role-play much anymore. (Neither do I but not by choice.)
