Character Framing
There's been an avalanch of people shouting "Dude!" and "Awesome!" ever since Christian (xenopulse) started this Story Games thread about this post in my blog.
What began as me trying to write a roleplaying game based on Avatar: the Last Airbender has turned into a full-fledged discussion of framing "character development arcs" for major PCs instead of focusing on concrete goals or plots. How do we do this? Chains of "Keys" (from The Shadow of Yesterday) and "Restrictions" (from Nobilis), maped out like the Sphere Grid from Final Fantasy X, but where the various links in a given chain are interchangable or even improvized.
It also has the potential for much broader, general uses too. Like giving some real teeth to the Motivation rules in Exalted: Second Edition or more strongly supporting character development in a game like Primetime Adventures.
You should check it out. Super-exciting stuff.
Also, Matt thought of it first, so we should give credit where credit is due :)

This is neat. I tried to get something like this working , but never quite got something that jelled. I hope you figure it out so I can shamelessly steal. :)
